13th Annual High
Plains Conference
August 27-28, 2009

The Thirteenth Annual High Plains Conference will be held 27-28 August
2009 in North Platte, Nebraska. This conference will be sponsored
by the High Plains Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and
National Weather Association.
Location of the conference will be at the Mid-Plains Community College
- North Campus, North Platte, NE
Preliminary Conference Keynote speakers include:
* Dr. Tim Samaras - Tornado and Lightning
Research scientist.
* Brian Fuchs - Climatologist with the Drought Mitigation Center,
Lincoln, NE
* Sheldon Drobot - Scientific Program Manager, NCAR Research
Applications Lab
Additional keynote speakers are still being scheduled and will
be made available on the High Plains Chapter web page
(http://www.highplains-amsnwa.org/) when finalized
Any atmospheric meteorology topic is applicable, including winter and
severe weather forecasting, climatology, and both research and
operational aspects of forecasting High Plains weather are
welcome. Sessions will begin with an invited speaker and the
remaining speakers will be given 20 minutes including questions.
The tone of this conference is less formal than at national
conferences, and part of the purpose for this conference is to provide
a forum and/or training platform for first time presenters, and for
work that has not yet had a chance to go through the academic peer
review process.

In addition, as in previous years, the High Plains Chapter will hold a
Student Paper Competition for the best student paper describing
research related to High Plains weather, including a monetary award for
undergraduate and graduate presentations. For further information
