The High Plains Chapter of the AMS and NWA held its Fifth Annual High Plains Conference in North Platte Nebraska at the Holiday Inn Express.

Invited presentations were given by Dr. Paul Markowski of Penn State University, Suzanne Wetzel Seemann from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMMS), University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Andy Detwiler Professor of Meteorology, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
The theme of the event was, “The Challenges of Weather Forecasting on the High Plains” with a total of 23 presentations spread out over 2 full days. Presentations varied from winter weather forecasting, computer modeling, military/private/government weather services, and severe convective weather.
A student paper competition was also held during the conference with Daniel Zumpfe, student at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln winning a $400 scholarship from the High Plains AMS/NWA.
