Minutes of the High Plains AMS/NWA Chapter
Meeting
August 27, 2009
The High Plains
Chapter met
during the High Plains 13th Conference (HP13), at the end of
the
first day, starting at 5:10 PM. There
were 24 members present, the most we have had during any recent meeting.
Call to order. President
Mike Umscheid/DDC began the meeting by
stating how pleased he was about how the conference was going. We had viewed numerous presentations covering
a wide variety of meteorological topics.
Secretary Tim Burke/DDC read the minutes from the July 20th
meeting, which were accepted as read.
Treasurer’s report. Treasurer’s
report was delayed until after the
conference is completed, to update the checkbook balance to account for
any
conference income and/or expenses.
Old Business. Thanks go out
to our 5 volunteers who worked
together to select the Jim Johnson Scholarship winner.
The committee consisted of Jennifer
Ritterling/DDC, Chris Foltz/GLD, Teresa Keck/LBF, Aaron Johnson/GID,
and Bill
Eckrich/DayWeather. Good job gang on
selecting Jennifer Uhrich, a senior at North Platte High in Nebraska. She is planning to major in Meteorology at
the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
The HP13 was quite a success, with over 77 attendees, and a
great time
was had by all. Dodge City will host the
2010 High Plains conference.
New Business. Jim Johnson
notified the President via e-mail
that he may attend the AMS national meeting in Atlanta, to be held in
January
2010. Christina Henderson/GLD and
President Mike Umscheid will work on putting a poster together for Jim
(or
whomever else) to present at the national AMS conference, and any other
upcoming AMS or NWA national gatherings through 2010.
Adjournment. The meeting
ended at 5:30 PM. The next meeting will be
around the first
week of November.
