Plains! We are a local chapter sponsored jointly by the AMS and NWA. Our coverage area spans western
Oklahoma to western/central Kansas and Nebraska. If
you are a resident of this area, or just have an interest in
its wild weather, you've come to the right cyberplace!
Our next
chapter meeting will be Wednesday, March 14 at 11:30 am CST at the
Town and Country Restaurant in Norton, KS.
The last
chapter meeting was January 11, 2012. At the meeting, Scott Mentzer (Goodland)
presented on the Local Winter Storm Scale
(LWSS) as referenced in the June 2011 edition of BAMS.Minutes
from the meeting are
now available.

Jim Johnson Scholarship
The High
Plains Chapter of the AMS/NWA is pleased to announce that Nicholas Humrich of O’Neill, NE is the 2011 recipient of
the Jim Johnson
Scholarship. Nicholas is planning to major in Meteorology at the
University of Nebraska in Lincoln begining this fall. This scholarship was
established to honor Jim Johnson, retired
Lead Forecaster at NWS Dodge City, for his contributions to the
founding of the High Plains AMS/NWA chapter and 1st Annual Conference
in Dodge City in 1996. Prior recipients of the Jim
Johnson Scholarship:

Uhrich of North Platte, NE 2008 - Jordan

The
announcement for the 2011-2012 Jim Johnson Scholarship will be mailed
